Football Final Season Overview

The SMHS varsity football team finished off their season 4-1 with their final game against El Camino at the last home game. The Bearcats played their heart out because this final win would give them the possibibly of going to CCS. The only condition for this to occur would be for Capuchinoto lose their next two games. But with the best runningback in the peninsula, with almost 2800 rushing yards, this seemed impossible. Capuchino was the only team to keep the Bearcats from having a undefeated league season. The final home game for the seniors was  by far the best way for the seniors to remember their last home game. It ended up with the first overtime of the season, which ended up with a 21-20 victory. “It felt good to celebrate on that field”, said Nate Erlick. “EsPECIALLY because they beat us last year with our worst game of the year.

This game was one of the most nerveracking  games of the year and meant a lot for the Bearcats. The bearcats started off strong forcing many turnovers on down in the 1st quarter. Taylor sanft was able to score with a 7 yard keeper. Bring the Bearcats up 7-1 in the 1st qarter. “Our team started off the quarter right with great drives and great stops” said Taylor Sanft. “I am really confident for Burlingame next week and we seem 100 perent ready”

The Bearcats were able to score once more from a pitch to Line Latu who carried it 22 yards in the end zone. Unfortunately El camino was able to score twice more as well tieing the game at 14-14. This left the game with an over time which consisted of both teams getting once chane from the 10 yard line to score in the endzone.

El camino went first scoring with a missed field goal. This gave the Bearcats a chance to win the game. Line latu was able to carry the ball in on second down. The remaindr of the game relied on Larry Campbells kick for the PAT winner. He wasntgoing to let his team down. He plopped the ball right though the posts and was swarmed by his fellow teamates. “It felt great to watch that ball go in” he said. I am proud of myself and even pruder of my team.
