Ben Flieshman, New Student Teacher

Ben Fleishman, student teacher for Mr. Teague, had come to San Mateo High through the Stanford Student Teacher Program. According to Mr. Teague, “Mr. Fleishman has already shown he is going to be a great teacher in the past couple weeks.”

Some accomplishments that he is proud of is getting into Berkeley (before he went to Stanford), writing a thesis, which is a 40-page essay in order to graduate, and having a lot of cool friends. Some talents that he has are he can solve a rubix cube, drive a car with his knees, and can make really good stir-fry. Some interesting facts about him are that he was born in Cleveland and is a Jewish history major. He has never broken a bone, can speak Hebrew, and his older brother is a national record holder for speed rubix cubing. He has never been to Europe, and loves putting Sriracha sauce on all of his food.

As a student teacher, some easy/fun things he gets to do is getting to know and working with his students, and learning their stories and ideas. Some hard parts of being a student teacher is that it is hard to teach for every single student, to get them all engaged, and to find time to get to know all of the students.

He had wanted to be teacher since fourth grade, because his mother was a teacher as well. He really loved studying history, which pushed him into that route as a teacher. He enjoys being a teacher, and if there are any teaching positions available in San Mateo High, he would gladly come back as full time teacher. If there isn’t, he would enjoy getting a teaching job in the bay area at a large high school with a diverse student body like San Mateo High.

Some jobs he does as a student teacher are to help Mr. Teague, plan classes, and grade papers. He basically does everything that a teacher does, except it is limited.

In the future, he hopes to have a happy family, a meaningful career and education, and to become a teacher who challenges his students and is resourceful for them.

One of his favorite quotes is “Enjoy every day.” We hope that Mr. Fleishman will become one of our social studies teachers. Wish him luck!
