If you hate cancer, then the American Cancer Society is the perfect club for you.

Informally known as ACS, American Cancer Society aims to raise awareness of cancer and fundraise toward cancer research following different themed months. Each month is dedicated to raise awareness for a specific type of cancer, such as breast cancer or lung cancer. Fundraisers, volunteer events, and distribution of awareness gear are packed into the club’s agenda. Some events the club has already participated in include: Pretty in Pink, Relay for Life, Great American Smokeout.

The club is notable for its awareness accessories. For example, breast cancer awareness month was October, and similar to the Mean Girls motto, club members wore pink attire and ribbons on Wednesdays. Also, club members sported no smoking stickers in November, lung cancer awareness month.

Cancer hits particularly close to home for one of the club president’s Hana Alverina, a senior. “Cancer has affected a couple members of my family, and this has made me realize how necessary the fight against this cureless disease is,” said Hana.

So why should you join ACS? “Because why not?” said Allison Dong, the other senior club president.

The club meets every Wednesday during lunch in Mr. Reoutt’s, room A218. Do drop by, for it is time to stand up to the malicious monster known as cancer.
