Ms. Knott

Ms. Knott

Ms. Knott is one of the three health teachers at SMHS. She has been teaching here for four years now, and will be moving to another school at the end of 2013 to help with her new school, Design Tech High, a new charter school that will be opening in the fall of 2014  in San Mateo. She came to work at SMHS because she had worked with Ms. Shiu, San Mateo High’s principal, before and wanted to work with her again. She also was impressed by the amount of spirit that San Mateo had.

Some of her favorite things about teaching are being around young people and giving others the chance to learn about new things. Her least favorite part of teaching is dealing with discipline and disrespectful students. A couple interesting facts about Ms. Knott is that she has had three hip surgeries, loves swimming, and that she loves her kids very much. Some of the things that Ms. Knott has accomplished are being a well-liked teacher, being respected by her peers and students, and being part of founding the new high school, Design Tech.

During her career as a health teacher, she learned that sometimes even as a teacher she didn’t know what was going on in her students’ minds. A key lesson she taught to her classes was that “You never know what people are dealing with.” She hopes that each student would be more careful and treat others nicely, before judging someone straight off the bat.

Even though she will be leaving San Mateo High this year, Ms. Knott has contributed many things to the school and its students and will be remembered for a long time. Good luck at Design Tech High, Ms. Knott!
