Gearing Up for Another Softball Season

PICCsoftballSThrowing themselves back into the game, softball players suit up to get back and play. San Mateo High School girls get ready for another year of softball playing more games than last year, and practicing twice as hard.

Gina Titus, senior, captain for the SMHS Varsity Softball teams said, “It’s going to be a tough season, we are missing one of our starting players, but we plan to go out and give it our all.” Titus is the starting pitcher for the team, and is ready to lead the team to victory. “I’ve been playing since I was four, and as a senior and the captain of this team, I want to make this year the best that I’ve played.”

Also looking forward to another season of play is Taylor Doi, sophomore, and second year varsity player. Taylor plays catcher and third. “My favorite part about playing school softball is being able to play with my friends and play against my club teammates.” Taylor states.

This year, the girl’s varsity team will be playing more games than last year, giving them more of a chance to make it to CCS. Now that Woodside High School has moved to a different division, Mills High School might be the toughest team in our division, depending on if they bring their A-game. To make it to CCS the girls have to either win the overall season (first place) or place in the top two (first or second place) and play the required or more than the required amount of games.

Come support the girls varsity softball team, playing on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the Varsity softball field. Get more information on smhsbearcats.onlinesports.com.
