Pirie, Dave

English teacher and facial hair aficionado, David Pirie can be found showering his students with great knowledge of the english language. Mr. Pirie is known around campus for his shining sense of humor and unusual passion for whales.

Mr. Pirie has taught english at SMHS since 2010. Previously, he attended University of Vermont majoring in English and Philosophy. When asked about what draws him to his subject, he stated “I like reading books.” He believes reading, writing, and communication are very important skills that should be practiced as much as possible.

When asked what his favorite part about teaching at San Mateo was, Pirie said “What I enjoy the most is when my prep period coincides with journalism class so that all the students come to ask me questions.”

His advice to students at SMHS is, “You aren’t nearly as busy as you think you are. Don’t freak out.”
