The Girl’s Golf Season Kicks Off

By: Jackie Louie

Nine determined girls walked on the golf course this year, an unstoppable team. Girl’s golf at San Mateo High has finally started, and this season is going to be a memorable one.

The girl’s golf season began on August 19th and lasts until October 27th. The team requires no tryouts- to make the team you just need to attend a mandatory golf meeting and have excitement to play golf.

This year’s team consists of nine girls, varying in age and personality. However, when they step on the golf course they share one love: golf. They are coached by the biotech teacher, Mr. Ikeda. There is only one girls golf team, and they compete at matches against other schools as well as the occasional tournament.

Tiffany Tang, a junior, tells us about her favorite part of the team. “I like how everyone is really supportive of each other. It allows us to have a good time and enjoy the game.”

Lauryn Ko, a senior, explains how she took interest in golf. “I wanted to take up a school sport, and I had already known a little bit about golf beforehand, so I decided to try it.”

The girl’s golf team’s first match was on Wednesday, September 7 against Mills High School at the Poplar Creek Golf Course. They won 204-290, setting the lowest team score in the history of girl’s golf at San Mateo High. Thanks to the Sangha sisters, Amanjoty and Kiran, the top two golfers on the team, it looks like the San Mateo High girl’s golf team is a force to be reckoned with.
