The Wrestling Team is Back

IMG_20170209_150208603 (2)

The Wrestling Team is back for the season. This team acquired more players than last year. The team even have a new coach, Mr. Jason Cervantes. Many of the new players in the wrestling team didn’t even know there was a team the previous year. Coach Cervantes, although he’s new, believes that there’s something special about this team because, “…We don’t have any wrestlers that think they are above and beyond anyone else on the team. They all work well with each other and help each other out mentally, physically and technically.”
Coach Cervantes wants to coach this team for a while, he expects the best from his players. For this season, Cervantes expects, “The wrestlers have had a great season this year, we still don’t have the numbers I would like to have for team dual matches, but as individuals at tournaments the team is doing a great job and making a name for San Mateo wrestling.” In other words, he wants more people to join the team in order to do more team cooperated games against other schools.
For the future, Coach Cervantes hopes that, “…our team to grow in numbers and continue to make a name for San Mateo High in the wrestling world.” Many of the new players this year learned many new useful moves in order to win a match against other schools. Although this sport only has 2 people on the mat the whole time, this sport needs unity because the players need their teammate’s support in order to be more confident. Mr. Cervantes is the new coach and some wrestlers have seen improvement in their wrestling skills, junior Josseft Hernandez says, “We learn small techniques that are very useful in a tournament.”
In their upcoming tournament, please make sure to visit and support our fellow Bearcats’ on their next tournament on Oak Grove High School in San Jose this Saturday or February 9 at SMHS, the match is between the Bearcats and South San Francisco and Woodside High School for a double header.

Who even is this Hernandez kid? I’ve gotten to know and build a relationship with my team and i dont even know who that is. If your going to make a article about wrestling why dont you actually interview someone who has dedicated their time to the team over the past 4 months.
