College Visits

This is one of the presentations given at the Career Center

A slight breeze, a ray of glorious sunlight, a ruffling of leaves, the perfect setting for… college visits! San Mateo High School has welcomed over 50 colleges this semester during Tutorial and/or Lunch times. These colleges send a representative to San Mateo High School to spread details about the colleges. In October, San Mateo High School has been honored to have these following colleges on campus; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Pace University, University of Utah, University of la Verne, Trinity College, Savannah College of Art and Design, Willamette University, Cañada College, Waterloo University, California College of the Arts and UC Santa Barbara.

Some of the colleges are from out of the country, like Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. This college is part of the prestigious league of 22 European research universities. It also has a nationally recognized entrepreneurship program, having been named Europe’s leading one, two years in a row. The award winning forums of Art & Humanities, Nanoscience and Biomedical is another reason why Trinity College might be for you. As for its social and cultural stance, Trinity is home to 17,000 students from 122 countries mostly grouping into 120 social societies, 48 official sports clubs and more. A cool perk of going to Trinity is that each student is granted a personal tutor, as well as various of a guidance counselors.

If you are looking for more of an artistic and local environment, you may find interest in California College of the Arts. Based in Oakland, it offers the educational likes of animation, architecture, fashion design, industrial design, writing and literature, photography and more. The diverse community has produced alumni that work for Apple, Pixar, Airbnb, Levi, Facebook and more. Also, California College of the Arts has been the buzzing center of expressive movements, “CCA’s history is tied to the Arts and Crafts movement, a time when artists and designers were producing work that would address the social issues of the time and have a positive impact of the world. The spirit is still very much a part of the campus today.” said Stephen Beal, president of the college.

Most people obtain debt when going to college and struggle to balance part-time jobs with full time studying. However,

These are just a small portion of the many colleges out there. When smaller colleges come visit, the representative often talk to the guests more personally and that can be really helpful especially since the representatives are also reviewing college applications. These visits really help a student discover more and opens up their palette of choices. Some upcoming visits include San Francisco State University on October 25, 2017; University of Iowa on October 27, 2017; University of Michigan on October 30, 2017; San Francisco Performing and Visual Arts on November 1, 2017.  Learn more about college visits by visiting the Career Center or listening to the announcements.
