An amazing year for the wrestling team

So far, the wrestling team has had a fantastic season; they are currently undefeated. Wrestling is  a contact sport that involves grappling type techniques such as clinch fighting, throws and takedowns, joint locks, pins and other grappling techniques. The coach, Jason Cervantes, decided to take over the wrestling program as he too was a former wrestler and knew that if no one took over the position then the team would have dissolved. Compared to last season, the coach didn’t have to recruit since people willingly wanted joined. Although the sport isn’t as popular as the other sports at SMHS, the…

My Experience at the Women’s March

The second Women’s March took place on  Saturday, the 20th of January with thousands of men and women marching through the city. Marchers  arrived to the start at eleven thirty and the actual march began at around one o‘clock. What better place than the forward thinking city that is San Francisco; a place that encourages people to be different and to join movements or groups. It was my first time going to the Women’s March; I was very excited but at the same time I was feeling very anxious since I didn’t know what to expect. Not knowing beforehand  how…

Parkland Shooting

The sky, as bright as baby blue, would have been a great day to have a picnic or go on a road trip. But instead, people gathered for the first funeral for those killed in the mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida. A few days ago at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, ex-student Nikolas Cruz started “shooting students that he saw in the hallways and on school grounds”, which he later confessed. The 19 year-old reportedly arrived at the high school by Uber at 2:19pm and took his semi-automatic AR-15 rifle out of his black duffle bag. He also…

California Flu Crisis

The Golden State is currently experiencing what could be one of its most deadly flu seasons in the past decade.      Since the beginning of the season, the number of flu-related deaths has risen to 165 people-eight times the number seen at this time last year, according to recent figures released by state public health officials. The state doesn’t collect data on deaths among people over the age of 65 though, meaning that the actual death toll of flu related deaths could be much higher.      California hospitals have been packed in the past few weeks, with doctors struggling to…
