UPDATE: Senior Activity Day Halved After 200 Seniors Ditch

Senior Activity Day 2014

Senior Activity Day will be cut in half in response to Senior Ditch Day, the leadership class learned Monday. Requests for extra graduation tickets will also be processed first for those present on Monday, April 11, when almost two-thirds of the senior class was absent. Ticket requests from those that were absent will be reviewed after. On the Monday following prom, 214 of the 357 seniors—around 60 percent—were absent on an unsanctioned Senior Ditch Day. “I’m extremely disappointed in the senior class,” said Principal Yvonne Shiu in an interview with the Hi. District to Dismiss Librarians

Fewer librarians will work in our six-school district after a split vote at February’s Board meeting to cut staff. Board member Marc Friedman abstained and Greg Land voted against the resolution to cut 1.5 librarian positions overall. “It’s a decision made to utilize our resources better, and recognize the realities that we’re dealing with in terms of staffing,” Superintendent Dr. Kevin Skelly said in an interview with the Hi. By Breana Picchi More than half of the senior class took a unapproved “Senior Ditch Day” on April 11, and administrators are considering what to do about it. Spring is here, and and spring sports have arrived. One of the most popular sports at San Mateo High is Track and Field. Over 40 bearcats participate and love the sport for the diversity in events. Some of the activities athletes can attempt include hurdles, pole vaults, sprints, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus, and middle and long distance running.
