The New Health Teacher Arrives

  There is currently a new health teacher at San Mateo High School by the name of Ms. Jackson. In fact, she has been teaching at this school since the beginning of 2014 as a replacement for the former health teacher Ms. Knott. Ms. Jackson really enjoys San Mateo. “I am really impressed with the Drama Department and the students and teachers are really nice,” she said. Jeffery Scheller is a teacher and a football coach here at San Mateo High. He has been at San Mateo for eight years and has been teaching health for five years. Mr. Mountain teaches his class ecstatically, showing enthusiasm toward teaching, and compassion toward his students. Mr. Mountain teaches ELD here at San Mateo High School in room A203. Mr. Mountain has been teaching for a total of 32 years. He first started teaching at San Mateo High school in 1991, he has been teaching here for 23 years. Ms. Knott

Ms. Knott is one of the three health teachers at SMHS. She has been teaching here for four years now, and will be moving to another school at the end of 2013 to help with her new school, Design Tech High, a new charter school that will be opening in the fall of 2014  in San Mateo. Ben Flieshman, New Student Teacher

Ben Fleishman, student teacher for Mr. Teague, had come to San Mateo High through the Stanford Student Teacher Program. According to Mr. Teague, “Mr. Fleishman has already shown he is going to be a great teacher in the past couple weeks.” Some accomplishments that he is proud of is getting into Berkeley (before he went to Stanford), writing a thesis, which is a 40-page essay in order to graduate, and having a lot of cool friends. The best part of coming to the United States, Giulia Rotunno says, is that she gets the chance to create new relationships – with her new ‘sister,’ in her host family, and with the Bearcats at San Mateo High School. Giulia, a fourth-year high school student in Italy, came to the United States last summer. She’s been attending San Mateo High since the beginning of the school year.
