Cheerleaders to Nationals Feb. 26

Our Varsity Cheerleading squad took on the JAMZ Slam City Competition on Saturday, December 5 at the Cow Palace in Daly City. San Mateo Cheer had never attempted competing against other schools and gyms at a big cheerleading event, yet coach Shonna Chiles thought it would be a great new experience. Our cheerleaders arrived at Cow Palace at 10am. They watched competitive cheerleaders compete with extremely impressive routines. Kickin’ It New School

Soccer tryouts lasted from Nov. 3 to Nov. 24. Many of our bearcats prepared for vigorous games and trying workouts. Tryouts were extremely stressful, requiring potential players to run several laps around the track and undertake intense drills and stretches. After many routines and scrimmages, the teams were finally decided by our new coach, Darren Shields. Track and field is one of the most popular sports here at San Mateo as the team with the most members. It’s is also one of the hardest sports, but is the most rewarding in terms of fitness and health. Our lady bearcats are jumping into action for an all new season of intensive volleyball. These girls have been practicing for weeks. Although their first game was cancelled, they are still hyped up to what they got this year. For a lot of new players this is there first time playing.
