Gearing Up for Another Softball Season

Throwing themselves back into the game, softball players suit up to get back and play. San Mateo High School girls get ready for another year of softball playing more games than last year, and practicing twice as hard. Girl’s Varsity Softball Season Off to a Great Start

The varsity softball league started off strong last Wednesday, March 20 with a 5-1 victory against Menlo Atherton. Then, on Friday march 22 they crushed South City 10-1. With five freshmen on varsity this year, they are full of young talent. Freshman “I feel so accomplished being able to make both varsity soccer and softball this year. I think we’re pretty good this year. Our strongest suit is probably our defense, but we need to practice our hitting,” said Taylor Doi. After three weeks of intense practices and one preseason game vs. the Terra Linda Trojans, the SMHS varsity softball team continues preparing for the regular 2012 spring season. Both through repetition and new strategies, they are getting back on track after a year away from the dirt. A pre-season game played on February15 against Terra Linda proved a great motivator for the team. Girls JV softball putting together a strong season

The girls softball team started their 2011 season off great beating many schools that were not in their conference. They were able to beat our arch-rivals Burlingame which was a very big accomplishment for the team in representing our school. They had a good preseason which was good practice for them to prepare for the regular season. In the preseason, they beat Sacred Heart Cathedral, which was a confidence booster for the girls out there considering that Sacred Heart Cathedral is a private school. The girls softball team hit the fields, looking to win this year. They came off of a successful last year going 15-5 and 10-2 in the season. This year they look to repeat, if not, improve their success. Last year they had a batting average of .319and on base percentage of .398, fielding percentage of .894, and a win-loss percentage of  .789.
